1) Changing America- market revolution: stratification- divisions between social class. Lower class-assertive, start making demands known politically, felt like their voice wasn’t being heard. Rise of democracy- pursuing greater equality.
2) Movement of Cherokee from Georgia to Oklahoma. Backed by federal govt. and President Jacksons desire, American troops forced hundreds of Cherokee to leave their homes in Georgia and move to the Indian territory of Oklahoma. About 7000 american troops moved in and began the forced removal. The journey was hard and many Cherokee’s suffered or even died, many cried, that’s why they called it. Moved them end of the fall, beg. Of winter- bad weather conditions. 5,000 died on the way (1/3), exposure to starvation once landed.many outraged at treatment- Americans were mad, felt sympathy. It was a dark chapter in this nations history – about 300-350 miles on foot.

Treaty of Echita- jaskson organizes it- meets a few Cherokee’s and they sell land to Jackson, it wasn’t a valid treaty, they wouldn’t leave so Jackson orders army to remove them. People who signed the treaty left, others were forced to leave.
